The Detroit Pistons are well on their way to a losing record. Their present-day team is bad but their future is pretty bright. It could get even brighter if they trade Jerami Grant, who is seen as the most coveted player in this year's trade deadline, per Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report. Although Detroit is not jumping at the chance to move Grant, who they just signed to a big contract, a bidding war is brewing for him. They may find an offer that can't refuse.

One spot above the Pistons in the Eastern Conference standings lies the Indiana Pacers, who are in a similar situation. They haven't shown a desire to rebuild via young players like the Pistons have done but they are looking to shake up their roster. Several of their best players are among the most discussed trade targets in the NBA. Their roster could be drastically altered once the trade deadline is over.

With Grant and Indiana center Myles Turner frequently in trade talks, the Pistons and Pacers could rehash their rosters by simply swapping the two veterans.

Perfect Pacers trade for Jerami Grant

Stout interior defense is a premium and perimeter shooting from bigs is more of a necessity now than it ever has been. Turner checks both of those boxes and is just 25-years-old. He could be a key player moving forward as he generates chemistry with Cade Cunningham. Detroit does have young big man Isaiah Stewart but Turner has a much more developed game. He should be able to provide his two-way talents for a while, and it could make Stewert expandable in trades for other pieces.

The Pistons, according to Fischer, want several first-round picks or similar assets. But that is a very steep demand that teams may not want to pony up. They will get picks from Indiana in this trade but one will be a second-rounder and the other will be a lottery-protected first that would eventually convey into a first-rounder. These assets, in addition to a player that is proven to be good and still relatively young, make for a good package for Grant.

Pacers receive Jerami Grant

Fischer reported that the Pacers are among several teams interested in Grant. The Pistons star could make for a good fit at the power forward spot alongside Domantas Sabonis, who could slide down to the center spot. Grant would also be able to play the four next to Goga Bitadze or Isaiah Jackson, Indiana's younger bigs. His perimeter-centric scoring abilities and shooting would allow Sabonis some more room to operate in the post.

Indiana would have to surrender draft picks for a few reasons. Grant is the superior player of the two and is someone that could raise a team's ceiling higher. Turner injured his foot, limiting his availability at least for the short term. Since the Pacers are also looking to trade Caris LeVert, Grant could get more touches, making his potential value with the team even higher.

As the Pacers fall out of playoff contention, tearing the team down makes sense. But that doesn't seem to be the road they want to take. Since they want to remain competitive, Grant is just the type of guy they should pursue.
