Oklahoma City Thunder big man Enes Kanter claims the team has found a way for him to play in their game in Mexico City this season even without a passport, according to The Oklahoman’s Brett Dawson.

The Thunder are set to play the Brooklyn Nets in Mexico on December 7 as part of the NBA Mexico City Games 2017. Kanter had previously been allowed to only travel to Canada for their game against the Raptors in Toronto on March 18 despite not having a valid passport.

Kanter’s passport was canceled by the Turkish government in May, which saw him briefly detained at an airport in Bucharest, Romania. He has been critical of the current Turkish regime, and referred to President Tayyip Erdogan as the “Hitler of our century.” He has even been disowned by his family because of his political beliefs.

Enes Kanter has been a key bench player for the Thunder over the last couple of years as Steven Adams' primary backup. He averaged 14.3 points (third on the team behind Russell Westbrook and Victor Oladipo) on 54 percent shooting with 6.7 rebounds in 21.3 minutes per game last season.
