Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers and his new star Paul George hyped up Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as the star of the future for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Gilgeous-Alexander was the centerpiece of the return package sent by the Clippers in return for Paul George, alongside Danilo Gallinari and five first-round picks. The Kentucky product has gotten off to a rousing start to the season and dazzled fans with his raw ability to make plays, something the Thunder had their eye on when trying to deal George.

“I think he’s gonna be a superstar,” said Rivers, raising the hype level one more notch, according to Joe Mussatto of The Oklahoman.

George was asked Monday night what he thought of the trade from the Thunder’s perspective. He had nothing but great things to say:

“I thought it worked out great for them,” said George. “I think Shai is a future star. He’s proven that he can carry a load. From what I heard of him being here, he works hard. And then him just being under (Chris Paul) is gonna help so much. So, they got a star.”

There is nothing the Thunder could do to completely cushion the loss of two franchise stars in George, and later Russell Westbrook. However, they can soon reap the fruits of a star in the making, one that is under their control for at least two more years, and can become their next pillar of success if he develops the way he has been through his first year in the league.
