All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony finally got his wish on Saturday morning with the New York Knicks trading him to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

His former collegiate head coach Jim Boeheim voiced to the New York Post that he believes it sets up a prime opportunity for Anthony to prove himself once again.

“I’m happy for Melo, couldn’t be happier,’’ Boeheim told The Post. “Credit to the guys in charge of the Knicks who made a good deal, as good a deal as can be made considering the poison put in water. You get two guys who can score, two guys, both first-round picks. Carmelo’s happy he’s going to play with two of the top-10 players in the NBA, and prove he’s still one of the best players in the NBA.

“Melo had to work so hard in the triangle. It’s a good offense, but not what he does best. He had to work so hard to get his shot, and get a shot at the end of clock, and he’d have seven seconds. He’s much better when he plays with good players, gets open shots, opportunities to post up and do things, post up as well. It’ll just be a lot easier. I think he’s anxious to prove he’s still [a star].”

In the last four years with the Knicks, Anthony took on the brunt of the blame for the team's struggles missing the playoffs in each campaign. This has also diminished the public perception of his ability on the court as no longer being a player that can lead a team to success.

The 33-year-old is now going to the Thunder where he has a chance to play a major role while helping them contend for an NBA title. This also marks the first time that he's played with two other legitimate star players in the league in reigning MVP Russell Westbrook and All-Star forward Paul George.

This could also lead to Anthony's most efficient shooting campaign given that he should have better scoring opportunities and allow him to maximize his offensive abilities. Ultimately, it's a tremendous opportunity for him and will be on him to make it work out this upcoming season if he hopes to compete for an NBA title.
