Kevin Durant is planning to travel to Oklahoma City in March to attend the ceremony to retire the jersey of longtime Thunder player Nick Collison.

According to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Thunder are fully aware of Durant’s plans to attend the ceremony, and will be ready to accommodate him when he arrives.

Durant will travel from the Warrriors game on March 19 in Minneapolis and head to Oklahoma City for the event, which will take place on March 20.

In a statement provided to ESPN by Durant, the Golden State Warriors superstar said that the group the Thunder had while he was there was “special,” and noted that it was time to let go of all the animosity associated with him leaving the team.

“That group was so special, that whole group from 2010 until I left there, it was special,” Durant said. “It’s about time for us to let go of all that extra stuff, and just come together — especially around this time, because it’s Nick.”

Durant won’t be the only ex-teammate to show up, according to ESPN’s sources. Tons of ex-Sonics and Thunder teammates are expected to be in Oklahoma City to celebrate Collison’s 15-year career.

When Durant was drafted in 2008, he and Collison spent a year together as Supersonics teammates, and then an additional eight years together in Oklahoma City.

While his departure for the Warriors has left a very sour taste in the mouths of Thunder fans, it is a great gesture to see Durant and the Thunder putting aside any hard feelings to celebrate a beloved teammate.
