Recently, the Oklahoma City Thunder saw their season come to a close after a loss to the Dallas Mavericks in Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinals series between the two teams. The Thunder led that game by as many as 17 points in the second half, but ultimately, some unbelievable shotmaking late from the Mavericks sent the Western Conference's number one seed home early for the summer.

One storyline that followed the Thunder this year since around Thanksgiving involved shooting guard Josh Giddey, who was accused by an anonymous social media account of having inappropriate relations with an underage girl in California.

The allegations created a social media firestorm and prompted an investigation by the Newport Beach police department, which could not corroborate any criminal activity on Giddey's part. Since then, the NBA launched its own investigation into the allegations, and now, the results of those findings have come out.

“ESPN Sources: Four months after Newport Beach (Calif) police announced a probe had been “unable to corroborate any criminal activity” against Oklahoma City’s Josh Giddey, 21, involving online allegations of an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl, the NBA has closed its own investigation into matter after coming to a similar conclusion,” reported ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski on X, the social media platform formerly referred to as Twitter.

A future in question

With his name now cleared of any criminal wrongdoing by both law enforcement and the NBA, Giddey can now fully turn his attention back to the basketball court. This offseason, Giddey's name figures to run wild in trade rumors, as at times, his fit with the Thunder, particularly in the backcourt alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, was questionable to say the least.

Giddey's main strength is his court vision and passing, which of course necessitates that he has the basketball. However, it's obviously in the Thunder's best interest for their All-Star in Gilgeous-Alexander to have the ball the majority of the time, so Giddey's lack of perimeter jump shooting ability at times, particularly in the Dallas series, made him borderline unplayable, at one point prompting his removal from the starting lineup in favor of Isaiah Joe.

In any case, the NBA trade market will open back up once the season is complete in June.
