In light of the finalization of the start of the 2020-2021 NBA season, time is running out for the Oklahoma City Thunder, who are still in search for a head coach ahead of the upcoming season. But, recent reports suggests that Sam Presti and the rest of the Thunder front office seems to have found their next tactician.

Texas-native Will Weaver has been the recent front-runner to land the coaching job at Oklahoma City. The 36-year old head coach of the Sydney Kings in Australia's National Basketball League is reportedly already in town and is currently in mandatory quarantine. Per Olgan Uluc of ESPN, Weaver got the go-signal from his current team to pursue the potential coaching job in the NBA. If selected, this would be Weaver's first head coaching stint in the NBA.

“Will has kept us informed in an ongoing basis in regards to the recent discussions he has been involved in,” Kings chairman and owner Paul Smith said. “We support Will in this process. It is implicit to our vision for the Sydney Kings, a club that helps ambitious people move forward in their careers.”

This wouldn't be the first time Weaver will be sitting on an NBA team's bench. He was an assistant for three seasons under Brett Brown with the Philadelphia 76ers before moving to the Brooklyn Nets as an assistant to former head coach Kenny Atkinson. Weaver's next job was the head coach of the Long Island Nets of the NBA G-League where he won coach of the year honors in 2019. He led the Sydney Kings to the NBL finals earlier this year before the team controversially pulled out of and forfeited their series against the Perth Wildcats due to the coronavirus pandemic.
