Oklahoma City Thunder star point guard Russell Westbrook is expected to return to full basketball activities in three weeks, according to the team.

Westbrook underwent left hand and right knee surgery on Tuesday.

Russell Westbrook underwent successful surgery to repair a ligament on the fourth metacarpophalangeal joint (MCP) of his left hand. Westbrook also had a successful elective arthroscopic procedure on his right knee in preparation for offseason training. The 2016-17 NBA MVP is expected to return to full basketball activities in approximately three weeks.

For the third season in a row, Westbrook averaged a triple-double in 2018-19. The former MVP put up 22.9 points, 11.1 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game while shooting 42.8 percent from the field, 29.0 percent from beyond the arc and 65.6 percent from the free-throw line.

The Thunder won 49 games during the regular season. They were the sixth seed in the Western Conference. OKC lost to the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round of the playoffs in five games. Westbrook averaged 22.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 10.6 assists in the series.

Westbrook has undergone five procedures on his right knee since 2013 when he tore his meniscus after colliding with Patrick Beverley in the postseason. The eight-time All-Star missed the entire preseason and the Thunder's first two games of the season after undergoing surgery on the knee in September.
