Oklahoma City Thunder star point guard Russell Westbrook suffered a left ankle injury Monday night in the third quarter at home against the New Orleans Pelicans and was forced to leave the game.

Westbrook was seen screaming on the floor in pain. The entire crowd at the Chesapeake Energy Arena immediately went silent.

Russell Westbrook is one of the toughest players in the NBA. It has to be a serious, throbbing injury for him to come out of the game. Hopefully it's just a sprain and nothing else.

On the season, Westbrook is averaging 25.3 points, 8.5 rebounds and 8.8 assists while shooting 50.4 percent from the floor, 11.1 percent from beyond the arc and 63.6 percent from the free-throw line. The Thunder lost their first four games of the season, but entered Monday on a four-game winning streak.

We'll have more updates on Westbrook as they come in.

UPDATE: Per The Athletic's Brett Dawson, the Thunder announced that Westbrook has a left ankle sprain.
