An anonymous NBA executive says Oklahoma City Thunder superstar point guard Russell Westbrook has “too much money” for his team to trade for him, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

The Thunder are widely expected to trade Westbrook after shipping All-Star small forward Paul George to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Westbrook has four seasons remaining on his current deal. He’ll make $38.51 million next season, $41.36 million in 2020-21, $44.21 million in 2021-22 and $47.06 million in 2022-23. The Thunder might have a hard time getting equal value in return for Westbrook even though he's still one of the best players in the league.

This past season for the Thunder, Westbrook averaged a triple-double for the third consecutive season. The former MVP put up 22.9 points, 11.1 rebounds and 10.7 assists while shooting 42.8 percent from the field, 29.0 percent from beyond the arc and 65.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Westbrook had surgery on his left hand to repair a torn ligament in a finger and also had a minor procedure on his surgically repaired right knee after OKC was bounced by the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round of the playoffs in five games. Russ has career averages of 23.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 8.4 assists. He's an eight-time All-Star and two-time scoring champion.
