The Oklahoma City Thunder featured a very unusual starting five in Wednesday night’s win against the Toronto Raptors.

The Thunder started the game without a single first round pick, a far cry from the NBA’s usual trend. The team's backcourt was commanded by second round picks Theo Maledon and Svi Mykhailiuk, accompanied by another second round pick in Isaiah Roby. The other two starters to complete the frontcourt, Kenrich Williams and Moses Brown, were not even drafted at all.

Despite the unheralded starting five, the Thunder still came out with the 113-103 win. All five starters finished in double-digit scoring, with Mykhailiuk leading the way with 22 points and Brown finishing with a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds. Roby also had himself a double-double with 17 markers and 10 boards.

The 113-103 win came against the struggling Raptors, who suffered their fourth straight defeat and dropped to 18-30 for the season. The team has struggled significantly throughout the season, sitting in the 11th spot n the Eastern Conference.

It appears the Thunder are already in tank mode with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander out indefinitely with a foot injury and Al Horford already sitting out the rest of the season. Other usual starters Luguentz Dort and Darius Bazley are also sidelined with injuries.

The unexpected output from the other pieces of the Thunder’s young core is a great indicator for future success. It's worth noting that GM Sam Presti still has a treasure trove of draft picks. While the team may not be close to championship contention this year, the foundation being built will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.
