The grand narrative heading into Tuesday night’s game between the Golden State Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder was about Kevin Durant’s appearance in his old stomping grounds. That is unlikely what most people will remember from this game, though. At least not after Thunder shooting guard Alex Abrines shocked everyone in attendance at Chesapeake Energy Arena and those watching the game at home with a savage two-handed rim rattler over Warriors rookie Jordan Bell in the first quarter of the contest.

Who knew that Alex Abrines had it in him to throw it down hard like that? Not since Rudy Fernandez have we seen a Spaniard show this kind of serious spring in the middle of an NBA game. Jordan Bell probably was just there waiting for Abrines to make an ordinary layup but was obviously stunned when the 24-year-old guard suddenly transformed into a Russell Westbrook clone in the air. Bell surely did not dream of making it to the NBA only to get yammed on by a dude like Abrines, but that’s just part of reality in the pros which he has to learn to accept.

Nick Young also owes Bell a steak, as it was his pathetic primary defense on Abrines that led to Bell getting mercilessly posterized by someone who entered the game with fewer than 10 dunks all season long.

According to Basketball Reference, Abrines only had eight throwdown before the meeting with the Warriors. He now has nine with that dunk over Bell undeniably the most memorable of them all.
