The Detroit Tigers were hoping to get veteran starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez back from the Injured List in the near future after having gone a month without the left-hander. Unfortunately, that won't be the case. E-Rod informed the Tigers that, due to personal matters, he would not be returning to the organization at this time. The Tigers announced via Twitter that Rodriguez has been placed on the restricted list, though the team did not specify the reasoning behind the move.

The Tigers' statement comes from Executive Vice President and GM Al Avila, who informed fans that Rodriguez will be on the restricted list “until further notice.”

It's a huge blow for the Tigers, who had just sent Rodriguez out on his first rehab start since exiting his start against the Tampa Bay Rays about a month ago. Rodriguez felt what he described as a “pinch” in his left side, which forced the Tigers to take him out of the game just 23 pitches into the outing. He was subsequently placed on the 15-day IL, where he's been shelved since.

He made a rehab start at Triple-A over the weekend, striking out 9 batters in 4 innings and surrendering 2 hits. He didn't let up a run in the outing, which had Tigers fans encouraged about his return to the big leagues. Unfortunately, that return will be on hold indefinitely, as Rodriguez informed the team he would not be returning to the club.

Hopefully, the Tigers or Rodriguez himself will provide a more detailed update on the situation, but we're wishing him the best while he's away from the team.

This season, Rodriguez has recorded a 4.38 ERA across eight starts in his first year with the Tigers. He's 1-3 with 34 strikeouts and 17 walks across 39.0 innings on the mound. He signed a five-year, $77 million deal to come to Detroit in the offseason.
