Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves are now officially in Cancun after losing to the Dallas Mavericks in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals, bringing to an end what was the best season for the franchise in two decades. Edwards emerged as a star over the course of this season and postseason, but ultimately the Timberwolves ran into a buzzsaw in the form of a Mavericks team that seems to be clicking at just the right time.

One thing that was exposed during the loss to the Mavericks was the Timberwolves' overall lack of perimeter scoring talent around Edwards, as players like Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Mike Conley, and Jaden McDaniels largely struggled to make the Mavericks pay for their consistent double teams of Edwards.

One person who knows just what the Timberwolves should do is none other than former NBA shooting guard Nick “Swaggy P” Young, who recently took to X, the social media platform formerly referred to as Twitter, to give his advice to the Minnesota brass.

“T Wolves pls dnt trade nobody pls just go get a jordan clarkson or Poole party yall one hooper away from a ship and maybe you can get a tj McCollum to,” wrote Young on his account.

“Poole Party” would seemingly refer to Washington Wizards guard Jordan Poole, who was arguably the third most impactful player on a championship team two years ago with the Golden State Warriors but who largely struggled in his first year with the Wizards.

It's also unclear whether Young is referring to CJ McCollum of the New Orleans Pelicans or TJ McConnell of the Indiana Pacers. McCollum would seem to be more in line with the scoring mentality of the first two players Young mentioned, although McConnell also just did finish up completing an impressive playoff run with the Pacers, so who knows what Young actually meant.

Should the Timberwolves run it back?

It's generally not advisable for a team that just finished its most successful season in twenty years and whose best player is 22 years old to make any drastic offseason moves, and it's not likely that the Timberwolves will. However, this is the Western Conference we're talking about, with several teams, including the Memphis Grizzlies and others, projecting to make big leaps next year in addition to the teams that have already established themselves among the conference's elite.

This being the case, it would certainly appear to behoove the Timberwolves to at least look into potentially adding some more talent around Edwards, especially considering how little scoring punch the other Minnesota players were able to provide in the loss vs the Mavericks.

It's also worth considering that with another year of experience under his belt, Edwards will likely be better next year at reading double teams earlier on in the shot clock to make things easier on his teammates.

However, if Nick Young was in charge, it certainly appears that he would look into adding some more “microwave scoring” to help alleviate some of the pressure off of the team's best player.
