After the Minnesota Timberwolves won this evening, they mobbed their newly promoted head coach, 32-year-old Ryan Saunders.

After they left the court, the celebration continued. In the locker room, the players were still hyping their new coach. They were spraying water bottles on him as if it was champagne.

Only a few days ago the Minnesota Timberwolves fired their head coach Tom Thibodeau. This firing was a long time in the making, as reportedly ownership did not like his coaching techniques or the lack of results from his mentorship of Karl-Anthony Towns.

The firing came in due part because Fred Hoiberg had shown interest in the open UCLA job. The Wolves have long been a suitor of Hoiberg's and knew they'd have to let Thibadeau go in order to go after Hoiberg.

Hoiberg was most recently the coach of the Chicago Bulls for over three years. He was hired in part to modernize their offense, and never really had the chance to fully do it. His first season, he was left with an attempt to build a roster around Dwyane Wade, Rajon Rondo, and Jimmy Butler, which failed miserably.

By his third year with the team, he finally had the players to fit his offense. But, the organization decided to move on due to his lack of leadership in the locker room.

The Timberwolves are now 20-21 on the season and sit in the 11th spot of the NBA's Western Conference.

They will face off next against the Dallas Mavericks at home.
