The Chicago Bears' loss is the Tennessee Titans' gain. After the Bears cut pass rusher Trevis Gipson on Tuesday, the Titans swooped in and added the sack artist to their 53-man roster ahead of the 2023 NFL season.

On Thursday, reports surfaced that Trevis Gipson will be signing with the Titans. The fourth-year player was a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Tulsa and has developed into a quality edge rusher.

Gipson played sparingly as a rookie, but in the last two seasons, he’s gotten more time, playing 49% of the Bears’ defensive snaps in 2021 and 59% in 2022. In those seasons, he put up 7.0 and 3.0 sacks, respectively.

While Gipson is a young player with room to grow, his 7.0-sack season was as a 3-4 stand-up outside linebacker under Matt Nagy. Last season, his numbers dropped as new head coach Matt Eberflus transitioned to a base 4-3 defense with hand-in-the-dirt defensive ends.

“In terms of Gipson, love that kid. It was more of a fit thing, scheme fit,” Bears general manager Ryan Poles said via NBC Sports Chicago. “I think his success came in a different scheme. We had a great conversation yesterday. I'm excited to see where he goes and what he does.”

Where he is going is the Titans, where he’ll be able to revert back to an outside linebacker role, the same one his new head coach, Mike Vrabel, played in his NFL days. In Tennessee, he’ll join Pro Bowl pass rusher Harold Landry III, offseason free agent signing Arden Key, and promising youngster Rashad Weaver as the edge rushers on the Titans roster for the 2023 season.
