Tottenham’s problems this season have continued in the worst way possible, with a total of 13 members of the club testing positive for COVID-19, including eight players.
Spurs are set to host Rennes in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday, but it won’t be able to be postponed unless the North Londoners have 13 or fewer players registered. While this fixture is crucial for Tottenham to book their spot in the knockout stages of the brand-new competition, boss Antonio Conte believes more positive cases are going to trickle in. Via Sky Sports:
“The situation makes me very upset because the situation is serious,” Conte said.
“It’s contagious and there is a big infection. Now we are a bit scared because tomorrow we don’t know what will happen.”
Conte said that he had 11 players at training on Wednesday, but one of them tested positive shortly after. Tottenham clash with Brighton in Premier League action on Sunday, but it’s frankly unknown if they’ll be able to take the pitch. The club has yet to contact the league.
Given the severity of the situation, it would certainly make sense to postpone the match at the Amex Stadium. Let’s hope Tottenham can get this under control sooner rather than later because as we know, COVID-19 is no joke.
