The Tottenham Hotspurs entered Wednesday's match against Leicester City alternating wins and draws their last handful of matches. They were in need of a shot in the arm to remind this squad how good they can really be. They might have got it from Steven Bergwijn.

After a mostly dominating performance, Tottenham found themselves trailing 2-1 in stoppage time. That's when Bergwijn made some history.

Bergwijn scored twice in stoppage time, the final goal coming in the 97th minute played on the pitch. Tottenham earned a crucial three points in the English Premier League standings.

After falling behind early, Tottenham's Harry Kane even the score in the 38th minute. Leicester City keeper Kasper Schmeichel kept his team in the game, making a number of saves. Tottenham tallied 10 shots on goal during the match, to only four for Leicester City.

James Maddison put Leicester City back in front in the 76th minute, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. It appeared as though the upset was a certainty until Bergwijn took over.

Steven Bergwijn became the first player to score the game-tying and game winning goals during stoppage time in English Premier League play since 2016. Fernando Llorente accomplished that feat for Swansea against Crystal Palace over five years ago.

With the win, Tottenham improved to 36 points and maintained the one point lead ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United for 5th place. They also climbed within a point of the coveted fourth position, currently held by West Ham United. Tottenham has multiple games at hand over a number of teams in front and behind them, putting them in solid position to make a run for the Champions League berth.
