Byron Buxton is not only the best player on the Minnesota Twins but maybe the best leadoff hitter in all of Major League Baseball.

According to Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic, Buxton's leadoff numbers are so spectacular that not even someone like Mike Trout could match them.

Per Gleeman, Byron Buxton currently has the highest career slugging percentage when leading off a game in MLB history.

The Twins star's .792 slugging percentage is over .100 points higher than former MLBer Tuffy Rhodes, who is second on the list. Rhodes, whose career slugging percentage when hitting leadoff is .661, does not even come close to Buxton.

With Byron Buxton, no one has ever been able to question the skill of the Baxley, Georgia native. The question, as always with the third overall pick of the 2012 MLB Draft, is whether or not the star outfielder can remain healthy for an entire season.

To this point, Buxton has managed to play over 100 games just once in his now eight-season career. Already in 2022 in fact, Buxton has missed two slightly extended stints of games due to a recurring knee issue. If Buxton wants to be a serious contender for an MVP award, (which he certainly can) the Twins star needs to stay consistently healthy.

As Twins teammate and former Houston Astro Carlos Correa put it, Byron Buxton is “The best player in the world.”

“Speaking about talent, he’s the best,” Correa said. “He’s got to stay on the field and show it, but I know talent when I see it. Playing in the same division with Mike Trout, playing with great players on the Astros — nobody has more talent than him.”
