Ben Shelton isn't taking any issue with Novak Djokovic giving him a taste of his own medicine after their semifinal clash in the US Open.

For those who missed it, Djokovic mocked Shelton after winning their showdown in straight sets, imitating the phone celebration that the American did when he took down Frances Tiafoe in the quarterfinals. It was definitely a savage move from Djokovic, and one that would have annoyed anyone had it been done to them.

However, Shelton doesn't see any issue with what Djokovic did. He expressed his belief that winners of a battle has every right to celebrate in any way they want. Furthermore, for him, to see his rival and a legend like Novak imitate his celebration is a form of flattery.

“I don't like when I'm on social media and I see people telling me how I can or can't celebrate. If you win the match you deserve to do whatever you want… I always learned that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery,” Shelton said.

Ben Shelton certainly couldn't have said it any better. He knows how to talk trash, but it's rare to see someone know how to accept one as well when they are on the receiving end of it.

While he lost to Novak Djokovic, Shelton has every reason to hold his head high as well.  He made plenty of history in the US Open, including becoming the lowest-ranked American man since Jimmy Connors in 1991 to make it all the way to a Grand Slam semifinal.

Sure enough, we'll probably see more of Shelton's phone celebration in the years to come.
