The Atlanta Falcons had a forgettable Thanksgiving Day after they were taken to the woodshed by the New Orleans Saints on the road to the tune of a 31-17 score. If there was a single play that would perfectly encapsulate how things went for the Falcons tonight, then it’s going to be hard to argue against this costly fumble by Atlanta wide receiver Cameron Ridley.

With the Saints ahead by 21 points with just a little over four minutes remaining on the game clock and the Falcons in a fourth-and-10 situation, Atlanta decided to give it a go, as they desperately needed a touchdown score to give themselves some semblance of a chance to make the contest at least more interesting. Falcons quarterback then found Ridley for what looked like an easy touchdown score, but Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore had other plans, causing Ridley to fumble the ball just when he was a few feet away from waltzing into the end zone.

It was that kind of night for the Falcons, who dropped to 4-7, thus putting their playoffs chances in an even greater danger. As for the Saints, they extended their win streak to 10 games and improved their scintillating ledger to 10-1, tying the Los Angeles Rams for the best record in the NFL through 12 weeks of the season.

Up ahead for the Falcons is a home date with the Baltimore Ravens in Week 13. The Saints, on the other hand, will look to add to their unbeaten streak by meeting the Dallas Cowboys on the road next week.
