Los Angeles Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball heard it from the crowd after a horrendous free-throw miss in the crucial stretch of their match against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night.
With the Lakers trailing by six points with 6:12 left to play in the game, Ball missed a free-throw badly. Visibly dismayed by the miss, the crowd started booing Ball to the surprise of the commentators calling the match on ESPN.
Ball had a dismal night for the Lakers, as he finished with just three points and seven assists in 30 minutes. The second-year point guard shot just 1-for-4 from the field and 1-for-5 from the free-throw line.
The Lakers took a 107-100 loss to the Thunder at the Staples Center. Brandon Ingram ended up with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while JaVale McGee posted 15 points and eight boards. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope provided a spark off the bench with 25 points, but it was still not enough to lead the depleted Lakers to a win over the Thunder.
Los Angeles played without LeBron James and Rajon Rondo for the fourth consecutive game. James, who is averaging a team-high 27.3 points per game, remains out with a groin injury, which he sustained against the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day. Rondo, on the other hand, underwent hand surgery.
The Lakers also lost second-year forward Kyle Kuzma in the second quarter. According to multiple reports, the 24-year-old forward sustained a lower back contusion, which ruled him out for the night.
Paul George, who was constantly booed by Lakers fans, erupted for 37 points to lead the Thunder. Russell Westbrook had another triple-double with 14 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists. Steven Adams had 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Jerami Grant added 13 points for the Thunder, who improved to 24-13 this season.
