After an impressive 23-8 season, Wake Forest has rewarded head coach Steve Forbes with a much-deserved contract extension following the announcement that he was named the ACC Coach of the Year.
Wake Forest is expected to make their first NCAA Tournament since 2017 this month and that's much in part to the phenomenal job Forbes has done, who is in the second season of a six-year deal in Winston-Salem. Despite going just 6-16 in 2020/21, the school kept faith in Forbes and he fully delivered this season. ESPN projects the Demon Deacons as a No. 10 seed in March Madness.
It's been quite the journey for Forbes to this point in his coaching career. He spent five seasons at East Tennessee State, going an impressive 130-43 during that span. Before that, he also coached at the junior college level. Wake Forest is certainly pleased to have Forbes leading the way and his ties to JUCO's helped the program land ACC Player of the Year Alondes Williams, who scored a team-high 19.3 points this season.
The Demon Deacons have had a rather dismal decade when it comes to the NCAA Tournament, making just one appearance since 2010. Hopefully, Forbes can propel Wake Forest to a run this month. They head into the ACC Tournament as a No. 5 seed.
