Klay Thompson will have the entire NBA world behind him when he returns on Sunday night as the Golden State Warriors take on the Cleveland Cavaliers – but that doesn't erase the chip on his shoulder.

The Warriors star has no plans to return quietly, fully motivated to remind everyone of the caliber of player that he is.

Speaking to ESPN's Nick Friedell, Thompson opened up about wanting the respect that he deserves as he makes his way back on the court.

“I know myself. I know how good I am,” declared the Warriors star. “I know the things I've done. … It's like — how many times do I have to do something that no one else has ever done before and get respect? Do I have to go score 50 in a quarter now? Like, what the hell? It's whatever though, man. It's over with. I'm going to use it as fuel.”

Klay Thompson was admittedly irked by his exclusion from the NBA 75 team, which is part of the reason his fire still burns as strong as it does despite the hiatus. That fed him a tangible source of doubt that represented the doubters and naysayers he's hoping to disprove as he makes his Warriors season debut.

“I'm excited to get out there and prove to people who I am,” Thompson says. “I know they forgot because I've been out for two years, but I've never been hungrier seeing that stuff. Never been hungrier. And the best way at revenge is to win. Seriously.”

The list of non-believers probably isn't as long as he'd imagine, but Warriors fans won't mind Klay Thompson fanning the flames if it means he returns even stronger.
