Nick Young seized his opportunity on Wednesday night, making the most of his minutes on the court after starter Kevin Durant sat out due to a left thigh contusion against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

While Andre Iguodala got the nod to start, Young was the first one off the bench, providing a spark off the bench not just with his usual stroke from distance, but also recording five assists in his 21-minute outing on the floor.

Usually a shot-happy marksman, Young was teased by his teammate Draymond Green, in what he called a career-high performance for Swaggy P after a comfortable 125-101 win.

“The defense was incredible,” said Green. “He brought some energy to the game, he came out with several steals and (looking down to the stat sheet) four assists has to be a career-high for Nick, five assists.”

“Peaking.”

This is the first time Young has logged over 20 minutes besides the season-opener, where he caught fire making his first eight shots of the game against the Houston Rockets.

The long-tenured veteran has had difficulty finding minutes in a star-studded rotation, but pleaded his case after scoring 12 points, along with three rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Most importantly, Young was one of only four Warriors to not commit a turnover, a point of emphasis for coach Steve Kerr after Golden State headed into half time with 13, along with a measly one-point lead.
