The Golden State Warriors were able to retain a key piece of their championship puzzle in Kevon Looney. But they couldn't do the same with another fan favorite in Gary Payton II.

GPII is headed to the Portland Trail Blazers on a three-year, $28 million deal which was much more in annual salary than the Warriors were comfortably doling out.

Gary Payton II posted an Instagram story of a man getting into his car and leaving with a rather sinister laugh. The former Warriors guard responded to someone sharing it on Twitter, clearing up that he's just happy to get his well-deserved bag and that he has nothing but love for his time in Golden State.

After signing minimum deals and ten-day contracts that paid him barely a morsel that his current contract does now, locking in an eight-figure deal is such a huge success for the 29-year-old playing out the last few years of his athletic prime.

Gary Payton II proved himself to be an impactful piece on a team that just won a championship. The Blazers simply offered him more money and likely a larger role in the rotation, but his contributions to the Warriors' cause won't be forgotten any time soon.
