Klay Thompson's dad, Mychal Thompson, couldn't understand how Stephen A. Smith could remove Wilt Chamberlain off his Top 10 list in favor of Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry.

Before the Warriors won the 2021-22 NBA title against the Boston Celtics, Smith expressed his belief that Curry would be in the conversation for Top 10 all-time with a fourth ring. However that meant Smith had to take off one name among those considered to be the greatest players of all time.

Interestingly, Smith removed Wilt despite the big man's dominance during his playing days, highlighting that he'll always be remembered for being second to Bill Russell.

“Good lord the basketball community, they ready to take me to the guillotine for saying this,” Smith explained. “I wanna emphasize this: I know how phenomenal Wilt Chamberlain is. I’m only holding one thing against Wilt Chamberlain. When we think about you and your era, we constantly think about Bill Russell and 11 rings. 11 to two. You can’t mention Chamberlain without bringing up Russell, and when you bring up Russell, you bring up 11 rings.”

Reacting to the rather hot take after the Warriors actually won the NBA title, Mychal Thompson was clearly disappointed that Wilt Chamberlain was disrespected and slandered like that. Klay Thompson's dad, who grew up watching Chamberlain, emphasized that the NBA icon should always be an automatic lock in the Top 4 of any all-time list for best players in league history.

For what it's worth, Stephen A. Smith knew he would be criticized for his take. With that said, it's probably best not to take his Top 10 comments too seriously given it's dictated by personal opinion and bias instead of data or numbers.
