Professional athletes are expected to be at the pinnacle of physical health nearly all year long. While some can accomplish this feat, many struggle to stay in game shape 12 months a year. New Golden State Warrior forward Omari Spellman admitted Tuesday that he is not where he wants to be physically, but he is ready to work to get back to where he needs to be.

Spellman has always struggled with his weight as an NBA player. While playing with Villanova, the team encouraged Wellman to lose weight after he weighed in north of 3oo pounds. In his redshirt year, the big man actually lost over 50 pounds and slimmed down to 245 en route to posting excellent averages of 11 points, eight rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.

However, Spellman went back to his old ways and regained the weight. At one point in his rookie season with the Atlanta Hawks, Spellman was reportedly over 290 pounds. While he is a tall man, standing at 6-foot-9, a weight that high is very hard to play with at the NBA level.

Now, Spellman has to prove yet again that he is capable of dropping his weight and being a consistent player in the league. It seems like switching to the storied Warriors franchise has motivated him, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see a slimmed down and active Spellman take the floor when the regular season begins.
