Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry mourned the death of legendary golfer Lee Elder, who passed away at the age of 87.

The PGA Tour confirmed the passing of Elder on Monday, though no details about his death were provided. Upon hearing the sad news, Curry took to Twitter to share his sorrow and honor the trailblazer who became the first black golfer to play at the Masters.

“Mr. Lee Elder… one of my heroes… words don't do justice to the impact you had on golf and the Black community. All I can say right now is thank you for blazing the trail. It's on us to stay the course and keep going in your honor. Rest easy legend,” the Warriors star wrote alongside a prayer emoji.

Stephen Curry is an avid golf fan, and it's clear Lee Elder had a massive influence in his love for the sport. Not only does the Warriors star frequent play golf and participate in celebrity and charity tournaments, but he has also supported programs in the development of the game.

Surely, Elder would be proud of what Curry has accomplished in making the sport he loves more popular and accessible to all.

Elder is a four-time Tour winner. He made history in 1975 as the first African-American to compete in the Masters Tournament. He was honored last April in the Augusta National.
