Jonathan Amey Jr. is a familiar face to many members of the Golden State Warriors for the simple fact that he's the security guard that greets them as they enter the facility. For one day, Amey was on the other side of the coin as a player trying to compete for a roster spot.
The security guard participated in a tryout for the G League Warriors team in September. He may have only had experience at the intramural level in college, but he had something the others didn't–advice from Stephen Curry himself.

He said his jumper needed some improvement. He’s a little self critical but we gave him the confidence to keep trying and keep his attitude high. I like the fact that he put himself out there because it’s no easy task. So, shoutout to Jonathan.”
Amey Jr., a basketball guard who stands at an inch and a half over six feet, wasn't able to make the cut in the end. But the man who serves as a constant cheery figure for the Warriors was unsurprisingly not down about it at all.
“I felt it, I had my jersey on and everything,” said Amey. “The experience was enough.”
“It was just a great experience to be able to play at a pro level,” he said, “and be able to also just to have an opportunity to get a chance to do something most people wish they had the opportunity to do. I didn’t think I was going to get an opportunity so I just felt like, ‘Hey, if the offer’s there just go for it.’”
He may no longer be in consideration to be Stephen Curry's backup in the future, but best believe he'll still be there to greet the Warriors star with a smile for their next home game.
