Fans and fellow NBA personalities are often left marveling Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James for his otherworldly exploits on the basketball court. It’s a different story this summer, though, as James continues to keep people captivated through his ways of using his elevated platform to raise social awareness and, of course, by his charitable causes.
Count Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr as among the many who have expressed admiration towards the effort of the four-time MVP to help his community. In one word, Kerr made it clear how excited he is of James’ project and its philanthropic goals for students and their families.
In his latest example of making an impact off the court, James helped build the I Promise School in association with the Akron Public Schools. The school caters to over 200 at-risk students, who come from families with life issues and without enough resources to send their kids to school.
Like many of the kids who go to the I Promise School, LeBron James did experience tough times growing up. Long before he became a decorated multi-millionaire athlete that he is today, James was among those kids raised with the help of welfare and living in a one-bedroom apartment. In a big way, the school James established is a physical manifestation of his desire to give back to the same community that nurtured him to become who he is today.
