The Golden State Warriors could certainly use help at the center spot, but interestingly, they don't have plans to seek for one in free agency if they are able to keep Kevon Looney.

As it appears, the Warriors are putting their trust in James Wiseman and his ability to develop as a two-way center who can make a massive impact on the team. According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, the Dubs don't want to add a veteran player who could take away some precious playing time from the young big man and hinder his development.

“If the Warriors are able to retain Looney, which remains the expectation heading into Thursday, they aren’t currently planning to add an extra traditional center beyond him, leaving the rotational door cracked again for Wiseman,” Slater wrote.

“Wiseman has two seasons and $21 million left on his rookie deal. The Warriors need to find out as much as possible as quickly as possible to make clearer decisions on his future. He needs all the playing time he can get to develop. They are committed to providing him plenty. That means not blocking his path with an extra veteran.”

James Wiseman missed all of last season due to a knee injury, but hopes are high he can return healthy in 2022-23. In fact, there are expectations he could feature for the Warriors in the Summer League in July.

While the Warriors were able to win without the young center, Steve Kerr did highlight recently that he sees Wiseman becoming a key piece for the team if he develops into the center they envision him to be. With that said, it is probably just the right move to give him the chance to prove himself once he returns.
