As part of a recent session with members of the media, Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera explained why Alex Smith reminds him of Philip Rivers.

Smith has been elevated to the starting quarterback position for Washington, as Kyle Allen suffered a gruesome leg injury against the New York Giants on Sunday. After scrambling out of the pocket, he planted his foot, only to have it rolled up on by Giants safety Jabrill Peppers, who was applying pressure on the outside.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Allen was diagnosed with a dislocated ankle and small fracture. As a result, his status for the remainder of this season with Washington is in question.

Injuries are unfortunate, and Smith knows this fact all too well. However, they often open a door of opportunity. Smith recovered from a devastating leg injury of his own. In fact, it forced him to miss the entire 2019 season due to an infection scare. He entered Sunday's game for what was his second stint of action since recovering.

Smith had a decent outing against the Giants, though his team was ultimately defeated, 23-20. He completed 24 of his 32 pass attempts for 325 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions. With the loss, Washington fell to 2-6 overall on the season.

The Washington Football Team will be back in action on November 15, when they'll travel to Detroit for a matchup against the Lions. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m. ET, with FOX having live broadcast coverage.
