The Washington Wizards could get their All-Star point guard in John Wall back sooner than later according to Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington.

After undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery some time ago, Wall returned to practice on Monday, at least for some of the drills.

“Wall did their pre-practice warmup routine and then ran through five-on-zero drills. Afterwards, Wall went through a shooting routine by himself with assistant coaches.”

He ran through some of the plays with his teammates but once it was time for contract drills, he went to do a shooting routine by himself.

The Wizards will be playing a back-to-back starting on Tuesday night so the next opportunity for a team practice for Wall will be on Friday.

If things look good leading up to that practice, he may try a five-on-five scrimmage, which would put him one step closer to a return. After Wall gets cleared for contact and participates in a few scrimmages, it will be all about getting his legs back underneath him.

The Wizards will probably start him back slowly when he does return, possibly bringing him off the bench at the beginning and then working his way back to the starter role.

Wall was having another huge season before being injured. In 32 games played, Wall is averaging 19.4 points, 9.3 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game.

For the Wizards, they are entering a crucial stretch to near the end of the season. They currently sit in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings but are only a half-game back of the Cleveland Cavaliers for the fourth spot.

Even with such a close battle, the Wizards need to be smart with Wall's injury and not rush him back just because they feel like they need a few wins now.
