Before Jimmy Butler was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers, the Washington Wizards were aggressively trying to acquire the four-time All-Star from the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press.

The Wizards have started the season 2-9 and currently have the worst defense in the NBA. Washington is giving up a whopping 120.2 points per game.

The Wizards most likely would have had to include small forward Otto Porter in any trade for Butler. Porter and Butler play the same position. The Wizards' starting swingman is averaging 11.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.6 assists on the season while shooting 45.3 percent from the field, 38.1 percent from beyond the arc, and 80.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Even though the Wizards could have used a player like Jimmy Butler to improve their defense, they definitely didn't need to add another volatile personality to what is already a toxic locker room. All-Star point guard John Wall and shooting guard Bradley Beal have already called out some guys on the team for playing selfishly. The players don’t even look like they want to play with one another half the time. If a team makes one run against the Wizards, they fold instantly like a cheap tent.

Butler had issues with Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins in Minnesota. A locker room with Butler, Wall, Beal, and Dwight Howard just spells trouble.
