The New York Yankees did not make a $17.8 million qualifying offer to shortstop Didi Gregorius, but that does not mean they don't have any interest in bringing him back. According to Mike Calendrillo of Yanks Go Yard, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman spoke with Gregorius' agent at the GM meetings.

Calendrillo notes that if Gregorius does not receive a multi-year offer from any other teams, there is a possibility that New York could bring Gregorius back on a one-year contract.

Gregorius is the top shortstop on the free-agent market, but with not many contending clubs in need of a shortstop and with Gregorius coming off of a rather rough 2019 campaign, there hasn't been much buzz around him.

This past season, the 29-year-old (who turns 30 in February) slashed .238/.276/.441 with 16 home runs and 61 RBI over 344 plate appearances. He missed the first half of the year while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Gregorius originally signed with the Cincinnati Reds as an amateur free agent back in 2007.

He made his big-league debut in 2012, but only played in eight games with the Reds before being traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks that ensuing offseason.

Gregorius spent two seasons with the Diamondbacks and became known as a slick-fielding, light-hitting shortstop, posting OPSes of .704 and .653, respectively, in a pair of campaigns in Arizona.

The Yankees then acquired him a trade with the Diamondbacks in December 2014. Over the last five years, Gregorius has blossomed as a solid hitter in addition to his impressive fielding, with his best season coming in 2018 when he slashed .268/.335/.494 with 27 long balls and 86 RBI.
