The New York Yankees offense sputtered throughout much of the first half of the season. They addressed the issue at the MLB Trade Deadline by acquiring Joey Gallo from the Texas Rangers and Anthony Rizzo from the Chicago Cubs.

Rizzo came in and immediately sparked the lineup for the Yankees, ripping one extra base hit after another, including a home run in his first game with the Bronx Bombers. Unfortunately, he ended up on the Covid-19 list, opening the door for Luke Voit.

Now, Voit has been playing well and with Rizzo's return looming in the coming days, Voit believes he deserves playing time on a consistent basis for the Yankees. Via ESPN.com, manager Aaron Boone could have to do some lineup juggling with Voit voicing his opinions.

“I was top-10 MVP last year and I've been a great player for this organization for the last three years…I'm not going down. I want to play. Obviously, I know it will be tough with Rizzo, but I deserve to play just as much as he does. I led the league in home runs last year. I feel really good again.”

It's a good problem to have for the Yankees and one they will gladly sign up for after how poor the offense looked in stretches early in the season.

New York has been red hot lately, going 26-11 in their last 37 games to pull ahead of the Boston Red Sox for second place in the American League East. If the playoffs started today, the Yankees would play the Oakland Athletics in a wildcard game. For now, Boone will have to figure out how to mix and match his lineup.
