In yet another move, the New York Yankees have added former All-Star reliever Shane Greene via MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.

The move comes in the midst of a slew of injuries for the Yankees as of late. After a historic start to the season, injuries have began to stack up over the past few weeks. The bullpen in particular has been decimated, thus why Greene was brought on.

Greene will be in Triple-A for now, but if he does well there, one has to think a call-up is likely at some point. He actually began his big league career with the Yanks as a starter, as he was picked in the 15th round of the 2009 MLB Draft. After making his first appearance in 2014, he was traded in a three-team deal that brought Didi Gregorius to New York.

Greene's been a bit all over the place since then, as he was converted into a reliever full-time in 2016. He even made the All-Star team back in 2019. After an underperforming 2021, Greene made one appearance with the Dodgers this season. They designated him for assignment just over a week ago.

As for the Yankees' chaotic bullpen situation, Chad Green underwent Tommy John Surgery and is out for the season. Closer Aroldis Chapman and elite setup man Jonathan Loaisiga are on the IL now as well. Zack Britton had TJS back in September himself and is on his way to recovery, but likely remains a few months away.

Those are perhaps the Yankees' four best relievers heading into the season. The emergence of Clay Holmes and Michael King helps things, but they'll need some more help. The bullpen was included in the team's insane hot streak to the season, but they have struggled recently. The addition of Shane Greene can't hurt and perhaps he can be a contributor for the bullpen down the stretch. It's the second former All-Star the Yankees added on Thursday, as they signed infielder Matt Carpenter as well.
