Manny Machado is one of the top names available in MLB free agency this offseason and the New York Yankees have been talked about as one of the top landing spots for him. While the Yankees are certainly interested in Machado, there are quite a few other teams that will be more than willing to throw big money at him as well.

According to a report from Jon Heyman of FanCred, the Yankees will be meeting with Machado this offseason, but they may not be willing to pay enough to get him. Heyman listed the Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago White Sox as the two main teams who will be willing to offer him the kind of money he wants.

New York has built the right way to get back into contention in the American League. They have focused on developing talent and being strategic with the free agents they have signed. Spending huge money on Machado after giving Giancarlo Stanton a monstrous contract last offseason would be a bold move.

Last season split between the Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers, Machado hit .297 to go along with 37 home runs and 107 RBI's. He is able to play both third base and shortstop as well.

At just 26 years old, Machado is without question the kind of player a team can build around long-term. That would make the Phillies and White Sox even better landing spots. Both of those franchises are trying to get back to postseason contention, but need a legitimate star to build around.

On the other hand, the Yankees already have a great offense. They had their biggest issues in their rotation and at times in the middle of their bullpen.

Expect to hear more rumors come out about Machado over the next week or two. New York is going to see what it would take to get the star infielder, but paying a $300 million contract for him would be a mistake.
