The Miami Dolphins have had quite the NFL offseason. Having committed to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, the franchise has proceeded to surround him with an improved supporting cast, led by former Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill and former New Orleans Saints left tackle Terron Armstead, not to mention running backs Raheem Mostert and Chase Edmonds. In addition, the Dolphins hired a new head coach Mike McDaniel, to help Tagovailoa further develop. With the NFL Draft just days away, the Dolphins can continue to add to the roster, this time with talented young prospects.

Having surrendered three of their first four draft picks, the Dolphins will definitely be limited in what they can do on draft night. However, there are still areas where they can improve, such as the running back spot. Miami invested heavily in the position, though both Mostert and Edmonds come with injury concerns, making another back a necessary add for the franchise.

But which NFL Draft halfback makes the most sense. Georgia's James Cook should be the pick. Here's why.

2 Reasons Why James Cook Is Perfect NFL Draft Fit For Dolphins

2. Cook doesn't have to be a lead back in Miami

Cook, who totaled a career-high 113 carries in his senior season with the Georgia Bulldogs this past year, isn't the type of back who can jump right into an organization and be the lead runner. With so few carries under his belt, he certainly is entering the NFL with fresh legs, albeit with lowered expectations as well. That's why Miami would be a perfect fit for Cook, the younger brother of Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook. In Miami, Cook would be slotted behind Mostert, Edmonds and even possibly Myles Gaskin. While he may be hard-pressed for playing time initially, Cook's prowess as a receiver would net him snaps on the field in good time in what figures to be a more pass-heavy offense under McDaniel. The Georgia product would have a very soft landing in the NFL if drafted by the Dolphins.

1. Cook would take the pressure off of Edmonds and Mostert

Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert give the Dolphins a potentially excellent halfback duo on paper. Unfortunately, the two come with injury concerns, as Mostert has played just nine games combined in the last two seasons due to knee and ankle injuries. Meanwhile, Edmonds dealt with ankle and toe injuries this past year, appearing in 12 games. These lower-body ailments are concerning, especially for a back like Mostert, who is now 30 years old, an age where running backs begin to decline. It would be smart for the Dolphins to utilize a halfback rotation in an effort to keep all their backs healthy. That would be made a lot easier with the presence of someone like Cook, who could occasionally step in as a third-down back to spell the likes of Mostert and Edmonds. Running back isn't a position of need for the Dolphins, though that shouldn't stop them from protecting their investments in Mostert and Edmonds in the NFL Draft.
