It feels like the San Francisco 49ers are close to winning a Super Bowl while simultaneously being far away. There are high hopes that Trey Lance can get the team over the hump once he takes over as the starting quarterback. However, he must prove he is the franchise player the front office believes he can be. Additionally, Deebo Samuel's situation is interesting, which puts the wide receiver position in an odd scenario. For that reason, we look at three potential trade targets for the 49ers to round out their 2022 roster.

Although there is intrigue within the quarterback room, San Francisco is rather stacked throughout. There aren't too many holes, if any, on the roster heading into the upcoming season. Even so, the front office should consider bringing in another wide receiver. With or without Deebo Samuel, the 49ers could use another consistent pass option on the team.

San Francisco should highly consider bringing in another veteran receiver. Ideally, the 49ers should aim to acquire a receiver who can contribute while being cost-effective as well. This move would only help the team, as it would give Trey Lance another valuable weapon in the passing game.

With that said, here are three trade targets for the 49ers to complete their 2022 roster.

49ers Trade Targets To Complete 2022 Roster

3. Marvin Jones

Although he's 33-years old, Marvin Jones has been a consistent wide receiver throughout most of his career. That's especially true when he plays as the second or third option on a roster. Considering the Jacksonville Jaguars are nowhere close to being a playoff contender yet, they might be willing to trade Jones to the 49ers this offseason.

He'd mix in well with Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk. Marvin Jones would be an excellent deep threat while the rest of the pass options play their roles. His presence on the field gives the 49ers a dominant look on offense, as the team would be able to control the game on the ground and the air. Additionally, he'd only cost San Francisco just over $6 million before becoming a free agent in 2023.

2. Sterling Shepard

Another wide receiver to consider is Sterling Shepard. The New York Giants have acquired a plethora of receivers and Shepard could be the odd man out. Even though he's been a solid pass option in New York, the franchise is heading a different route. Especially after this upcoming season, when Shepard becomes a free agent. Now is the time for the 49ers to make an offer and bring in a talented third option to the offense.

Sterling Shepard would excel as a slot receiver in San Francisco. With all of the attention on the 49ers' main three weapons, opposing defenses would lose track of Shepard often. He'd likely serve as a strong possession receiver out of the slot and play a major factor in third-down situations. The front office should highly consider acquiring the current Giants wide-out, as he'd elevate the offense to new heights.

1. Terry McLaurin

Talk about putting the 49ers' offense over the top. Terry McLaurin is undoubtedly one of the best receivers in the league. With that in mind, this would be an incredibly difficult trade to pull off. Especially considering Deebo Samuel is also looking for a new contract as well. Regardless, he opens up the field to new possibilities. McLaurin, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle would make up an amazing trio and Lance's path to success becomes much more clear.

This would be a dream trade for the 49ers. It's an all-in move the fanbase would love to see. Having McLaurin join an already dangerous wide receiver group alongside San Francisco's stellar run game, this offense would compete as one of the best in the league. With the Los Angeles Rams absolutely stacked, San Francisco should highly consider calling up the Washington Commanders to acquire Terry McLaurin. If they can reel him in, then the NFC West becomes much more interesting.
