AC Milan was crowned Serie A champions this season for the first time since 2010-11, fending off the push from Inter Milan in order to secure the title. It was a season to remember for the Rossoneri, and they'll be eager to defend their title in 2022-23. In order to do so, they'll need to be active in the transfer market, as you can guarantee the likes of Internazionale, Napoli, Juventus, and even Jose Mourinho's Roma will be making big moves in order to contend for the trophy.

Big changes are set to come to AC Milan, however. Star midfielder Franck Kessie is expected to leave the club and join Barcelona. Additionally, the club is on the verge of finalizing the signing of Liverpool striker Divock Origi, adding some starpower to their attacking third. With this deal on the horizon, it marks the first move for the now-reigning Serie A champs. But there are plenty more moves to come, and plenty more transfer targets to hone in on.

With that in mind, here are three transfer targets for AC Milan in the summer transfer window who can help them to defend their Serie A title next season.

3 best AC Milan signings this summer to repeat as Serie A champs

3. Renato Sanches, Lille

With Franck Kessie set to join Barcelona this summer, AC Milan will need to find a strong replacement for their star midfielder. There's perhaps no better option to fill Kessie's void than Sanches, who has impressed for Lille over the past couple of seasons. Sanches' deal at Lille expires in 2023, and it's not expected he'd be interested in extending his stay, so Milan could land the Portuguese midfielder at a bargain price as the French club will look to recoup some sort of transfer fee for the 24-year-old.

Sanches was strongly linked to AC Milan during the January transfer window but ended up staying in France to see out the season. Now, however, his future is up in the air, and Milan will be at the forefront of the clubs looking to add him to their ranks. With Kessie set to move to Spain, Sanches could be the ideal box-to-box midfielder to fill his void.

2. Charles De Ketelaere, Club Brugge

Another area of need for AC Milan will be along the right wing. While there are intriguing options domestically, including Domenico Berardi or Nicolo Zaniolo, Milan may be better off looking outside of Italy for the future of the position. Club Brugge is Belgium is home to some extremely talented young players, and Charles De Ketelaere checks off all the boxes for AC Milan. He's a versatile young player who is more than capable of playing on the right wing, and at just 21 years old, he is the exact type of emerging talent that AC Milan is infatuated by in their usual transfer targets.

Despite his age, he has the talent to compete for a place in the Starting XI. Even if he's not quite ready to start this season, he'll get valuable experience playing in Italy's top flight and could become a key cog for the club in the future. He'd be available for around $30-40 million, and has proven to be ready for a bigger challenge than what's offered in Belgium's first division.

1. Sven Botman, Lille

Another player from Lille? AC Milan have been linked to Botman in the past and he could be the perfect addition to the Rossoneri's backline where he'd join forces with breakout star Fikayo Tomori. Botman had been linked with various clubs both last summer and during the January transfer window, but no move ever materialized. Now, it looks like a guarantee that he'll be leaving Lille and Ligue 1 this summer, and AC Milan would be wise to secure a deal to bring him to Italy.

Botman is an excellent defensive talent and at just 22 years old, the Dutch international is expected to develop into one of the top center backs in Europe. AC Milan has the experienced Simon Kjaer set to return from injury, so adding another young talent in Botman could be an ideal move to fortify their defense for both the immediate and longterm future.
