If there was ever a season that can be described as an emotional roller coaster for the fans, it is this Arsenal season. The Gunners started the season with three straight losses, had very bad spells all throughout the year, but they are in a position to go to the Champions League if they win their last two games.

Still, for the Champions League, they badly need to reinforce the squad. There are no serious discussions around the club about potential moves yet. Still, let's look at the three moves Arsenal must make in the 2022 summer transfer window.

Moves Arsenal must make in 2022 summer transfer window

Get a striker, urgently

Arsenal started this season with three strikers, which is good enough for a squad that plays with just one up front. They are ending it with effectively one, which is definitely not okay. Eddie Nketiah is the only one who is getting minutes right now, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left for Barcelona and Alexandre Lacazette is completely out of favor with manager Mikel Arteta. Starting with three was good enough but risky, but the problem for Arsenal now is that they are even losing the one striker who is getting minutes. Nketiah's deal is ending this summer, and he all but confirmed he is moving on from the London club.

Thus, the need for a striker in Arsenal is huge. Thankfully for them, there is a premier option playing his football in France right now. Jonathan David is a certified baller for Lille, as the US-born Canadian striker is playing on a level far greater than his current club, with all due respect. His goalscoring output is somewhat misleading, as he played a ton of minutes behind first striker Burak Yilmaz in Lille's title-winning season, but for Canada, he bagged 20 goals in 30 games. Arsenal must get that prolific striker, and they do love buying from France. It has not always worked out, but the general feeling is that David is the real deal.

Get an experienced midfielder

Now, it really should not matter to Arsenal whether this midfielder is a starter or a rotational piece, but they severely lack experience. Right now, the most experienced midfielders on the Arsenal roster are Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny. There is a chance that Elneny is gone by the summer and Xhaka's deficiencies are well-documented. There is also Thomas Partey, but due to his injury issues, there are serious doubts whether he can be available for the club week in, week out. Due to all of these circumstances and given the fact that all three are defensive midfielders, Arsenal must get a rotational midfielder who will play higher up the pitch. There are a few options available.

Technically, Arsenal could go for Paulo Dybala, but there are serious doubts about his health and about who their competition would be. One more unpopular option would be Angel Di Maria, but his disappointing Man United season and the fact he is getting on in age could be a reason why the Gunners do not go for him. Isco is going to be available on a free, but availability and the fact that he has not featured regularly for Real Madrid for the last few seasons are issues. Also, there is Paul Pogba, but his wages might be too much for Arsenal to take, plus he has the same issue as Isco, in terms of being featured regularly.

There are a lot of options, but Arsenal will need to take everything into account and bring about the best decision for the roster next season.

Get a fullback

Right now, Arsenal have some versatile players playing on defense. Takehiro Tomiyasu can play centrally and in the middle, while Nuno Tavares can play on both flanks. It gives them at least two options on both flanks, together with a few players who can play in the middle.

However, the injury to Kieran Tierney exposed Arsenal's weaknesses at the back, with younger guys who were expected to slowly earn their spot in the squad playing a ton of minutes. Additionally, we do not know how Tierney will look upon returning, so getting additional options on both flanks would be a great move for Arsenal.

If they want to go for the experience, perhaps the best option would be Marcelo from Real Madrid. However, his age and general lack of defensive ability might prove to be an issue. If they can poach him from Villarreal, Pervis Estupiñán could be a massive player for the Gunners. He is just 24 years of age and played fantastically for Villarreal in their run to the Champions League semifinal. On the right flank, Alvaro Odriozola could be available from Real Madrid, as he returns from loan next season. He is a solid fullback with a ton of experience and could be available for a fairly cheap price, and Real Madrid and Arsenal have a great relationship generally.
