The New Orleans Pelicans were a prolific offensive team right before the 2019-20 season was suspended. The squad was averaging 116.2 points per game, good for fifth in the NBA.

The Pelicans were in 10th place in the Western Conference standings before Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19 and the season was put to a halt. New Orleans became must-see TV once 2019 No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson made his debut. The Pels went 10-9 in the 19 games Williamson played in.

Zion's NBA career got off to a scary start when it was announced he was having knee surgery before playing in his first regular-season game. However, once Williamson made his pro debut, he was a monster who could not be contained. The former Duke star averaged 23.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists for the Pelicans.

Williamson was a beast in high school and college. Now, it appears he is going to dominate the NBA with the Pelicans for the next decade or so assuming he stays healthy.

To ensure that the Pelicans have success with Zion, here are some moves executive vice president David Griffin can make this offseason — whenever it begins.

3. Re-sign Brandon Ingram to max contract extension in RFA

In his first season with the Pelicans, Ingram made his first All-Star team and established himself as one of the best young scorers in the NBA.

BI was averaging 24.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists for the Pelicans in 2019-20. The 22-year-old, who began his career with the Los Angeles Lakers, was also shooting 46.6 percent from the field, 38.7 percent from beyond the arc and 85.8 percent from the free-throw line.

Ingram will become a restricted free agent once the Pelicans offer him his qualifying offer in the offseason. Multiple reports have said New Orleans is expected to match any offer Ingram receives.

2. Extend Jrue Holiday

Lonzo Ball believes Holiday is “for sure” the most underrated player in the NBA. Ever since the Pelicans traded Anthony Davis, all the talk around New Orleans has been about moving Holiday next.

However, it would make sense for Griffin and the Pelicans to actually extend his current contract instead of shipping him off. After all, why on earth would New Orleans be in a hurry to trade an All-NBA point guard who is a stud on defense?

Before the 2019-20 season got suspended, Holiday was averaging 19.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.9 assists for the Pelicans. Ball and Holiday form a stout defensive backcourt in New Orleans and the Pels have a pretty nasty starting five with Holiday, Ball, Ingram, Williamson and Derrick Favors.

There's really no reason to break that starting five up, although Favors is a free agent this summer as well, so Griffin will have to address that.

1. Sign Davis Bertans

Bertans had a breakout season with the Washington Wizards. He hit a career-high 200 3-pointers and has set himself up for a nice payday.

If the Pelicans can perform some financial gymnastics and come up with $15 million to pay Bertans annually, they should pounce on that opportunity.

Having J.J. Redick and Bertans coming off the Pelicans' bench would be so lethal. New Orleans would have two of the best shooters in the world in the same unit. Just imagine throwing Williamson in that lineup as well. The floor spacing would leave head coach Alvin Gentry salivating.

Bertans shot 42.4 percent from beyond the arc this season with the Wizards. Let's see if Griffin pursues the sharpshooter.
