The Seattle Mariners had one of their best seasons in the past two decades. Unfortunately, they came up just short of making the playoffs. They missed it by only one game. Seattle still had an impressive season where they were able to win 90 games in one of the better divisions in the MLB, the AL West. Mariner fans were ecstatic about how they played this season and although they didn't make the playoffs like they would have hoped, there are still many bright spots to take away.

General manager of the Mariners Jerry Dipoto says that he's going to spend as much money as he needs to make the Mariners Championship contenders. It looks like they are going to lose Kyle Seager and they also have some other areas that they need to address before they become contenders. The Mariners can use some starting pitching as well as some depth in the infield.

Let's take a look at a few players that the Mariners can add to get them over their playoff drought.

Three Players The Mariners Should Add

Kris Bryant
Kris Bryant is arguably the best player on the market this offseason. Bryant is one of the best third basemen in baseball and also has some experience playing the outfield. Seattle needs to replace Kyle Seager and replacing him with arguably the best third baseman in baseball would definitely be a bonus for this organization.

Kris Bryant spent most of his career with the Chicago Cubs before being traded at last year's trade deadline to the San Francisco Giants. He's an elite hitter who can bring in a championship mentality to a team that desperately needs players who have playoff experience.

Kris Bryant has a career WAR of 28.7. He slashed .278/.376/.504. He's also showed off elite power with 167 home runs throughout his career. Bryant has hit more than 20 home runs in six of his seasons. He's everything and more that the Mariners could be looking for as they need somebody to replace Kyle Seager. His asking price may be hefty but if the Mariners want to be serious and make the playoffs, then they're going to need to spend.

Marcus Semien

Marcus Semien offers a lot of depth to this Mariners infield as he can play shortstop, second base, or third base. He is one of three MVP candidates that will be announced later in the week. Semien is a former Oakland Athletic who played for the Toronto Blue Jays this season and showed that he's worth the asking price that he wants.

Marcus Semien had an incredible year where he hit the most home runs by a second baseman in Major League Baseball history. He was able to belt 45 home runs including 102 RBIs while slashing .265/.334/.538. He's an elite-level hitter who has already played on the West Coast and can come in and help the Mariners contend right away. Semien offers flexibility to any lineup that he is in as you can hit anywhere from the one through five spots at an elite level. He also has an above-average glove as he usually works up the middle at second base or shortstop.

He is another player who is going to have to cost the Mariners a hefty amount but if Dipoto is going to spend as much as he says he's going to, then Semien should be one of the first players he takes a look at.

Robbie Ray

Robbie Ray proved to be one of the best pitchers in all of baseball after his performance last season. He has always been a great pitcher but he really started to show what he can do as a Blue Jay last year.

The Mariners could add an ace starting pitcher and there's no one better to go after than someone who is one of three Cy Young candidates. Robbie Ray finished last season with a 13-7 record and a 2.84 ERA. To be a contender in Major League Baseball, a team needs a dominant ace who can go out there and get them 15 wins. If the Mariners add Ray they will be in a much better spot than a season ago.

The Mariners have an extremely bright future. Seattle was one of the most fun teams to watch last season. It seems like all the baseball world was waiting for them to finally end their 20-plus year playoff drought. They have a great opportunity to take advantage of the Astros losing many of their top players as well as the Oakland Athletics next year in their division. Expect the Mariners to make some big moves this offseason and possibly even go after some of the top-name free agents.
