The Kansas City Chiefs are entering one of the most important drafts in recent memory. After a defeat in the AFC Championship, they desperately need help at multiple key positions. The 2022 NFL Draft is the last chance for general manager Brett Veach to patch massive holes on the roster, particularly at cornerback.

Luckily, there's a great fit to solve Kansas City's problems at the position. Clemson University's Andrew Booth Jr. and the Chiefs are one of the better matches for a variety of reasons.

Why Andrew Booth Jr. is the Perfect Fit for the Chiefs in the 2022 NFL Draft

3. He fills a positional need

This one is incredibly obvious. The Chiefs have been struggling at cornerback for several seasons now, rotating through a number of players at the position. Last year's starter, Charvarius Ward, left in free agency for the San Francisco 49ers. That means the Chiefs are set to start L'Jarius Sneed, Rashad Fenton, and DeAndre Baker at the position. Sneed and Fenton are solid, but Fenton is better suited to playing in the slot. Baker is a huge liability inside or outside, so it would be best if he was on the bench. Booth can comfortably start on the outside in his rookie year and provide a huge improvement over Baker. Moving Baker to the bench would also significantly improve the depth at the position. It's clear that Booth fills a huge need in Kansas City.

2. He fits the scheme well

The Chiefs run the highest rate of man defense in the NFL, something that Booth is totally comfortable with. Clemson ran all sorts of defenses, making the 21-year-old Booth comfortable in nearly every single scheme an NFL team could offer. He also has the physical traits to improve as a man coverage cornerback. His size and length make sure that he won't be bullied by opposing wide receivers, and while his footwork isn't top tier, it can certainly be fixed with some coaching. Overall, Booth would be able to operate at a high level in defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's scheme.

1. He will be available when the Chiefs are on the clock

The Chiefs will pick toward the end of the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but that shouldn't be a problem. Booth isn't quite at the level of the elite cornerbacks in this class, which means that he'll very likely be available when it's the turn of Kansas City to select a rookie. The Chiefs are in desperate need of more youth on their roster to surround Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce with more talent, meaning that trading up isn't an appealing option. With Booth, they'll be able to stand pat at the end of the first round and take a good player who fills a tremendous need.
