Mike McCarthy and the New York Jets have completed their first interview and the franchise is reportedly “enamored” with the former Green Bay Packers' head coach. He has not decided whether he is going to coach in 2019 or take a break from football for a bit, but he should be the next head coach in New York.

After the second season in a row that the Packers missed the playoffs, the team decided to make a change. He was fired before they were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but the embarrassing loss to the Arizona Cardinals was the beginning of the end anyway.

Despite a rough ending to his 13-year tenure with the Packers, McCarthy is still an excellent head coach. It was simply time for a change of scenery in Green Bay.

Known as an offensive-minded head coach, McCarthy has worked with quarterbacks throughout his career. He has been successful and the Jets have a very talented rookie quarterback in Sam Darnold. That alone should be enough to interest him in the job.

All of that being said, what three reasons can be given to support the statement that McCarthy should be the next head coach of the Jets?

3. New York Needs a Stable Coach

Todd Bowles was not a bad head coach, but he did not bring the kind of stability that the Jets need. If there is one thing that can be taken away from McCarthy's 13 years in Green Bay, it is that he is one of the most consistent and stable head coaches in the entire NFL.

New York is in a rebuild and they cannot afford to bounce from coach to coach. They need to hire someone that will not only see them through this rebuild, but also be the guy to coach them back into the postseason.

McCarthy is without question and 100 percent capable of being that guy for the Jets.

2. A Revamped Offense

McCarthy's offensive success in Green Bay is well-documented and the Jets need to find a new system. One of the biggest issues with Bowles and the Jets' coaching staff over the last few years has been the lack of a quality offensive game plan.

There are some roster moves that the Jets will have to make in order to get back into contention, but adding in a new system that has had a lot of success in the past would be a good start.

New York has quite a bit of talent on their roster and good coaching could develop that talent even more. If there is one coach that could develop an offense and build them into something special, McCarthy is the man for the job.

1. Sam Darnold Needs a Proven Mentor

Finally, Sam Darnold is the face of the franchise for the Jets. After drafting him with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Darnold showed flashes of star power in his rookie season. He completed 57.7 percent of his pass attempts for 2,865 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions.

At 21 years old, Darnold is without question capable of being the guy that takes the Jets back into the playoffs. McCarthy worked well with a young Aaron Rodgers and he would do the same with Darnold.

McCarthy and Darnold would be a dangerous duo, especially in the aggressive offense that the veteran coach likes to run. His game would be taken to the next level and his development would have a good chance of speeding up.

Darnold needs a mentor and that is a role that McCarthy is not only capable of performing, he has done it before in the past.
