Tom Brady has been one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, but it's time for the New England Patriots to let him walk in free agency. Brady was selected in the sixth round by the Patriots in the 2000 draft, and will go down as the best player in franchise history.

There is an emotional connection to Brady, but the team needs to worry about what is best for the football team, and that is moving on from the future Hall of Famer. Let's break down three reasons the Patriots would be better off without Brady next season.

3. Cap Space

According to spotrac.com, the Patriots are expected to have over $44 million in cap space heading into free agency and the draft, but it wouldn't be a bad thing to have more. During the 2019 season, Brady's cap hit was $21.5 million, which isn't terrible for a franchise quarterback, but it's too much for a quarterback who struggled at times.

Wouldn't it be better to spend that money on a different quarterback, or maybe more skill players to put around their next quarterback so they can have more success.

2. Brady won't be leading any team to the Super Bowl

Earlier in his career, Brady could make up for the rest of the team's struggles with his play, but it was clear during the 2019 season he couldn't make up for the rest of the offense's struggles.

Brady played well at times, but there were a lot of times he missed some easy throws. According to playerprofiler.com, Brady's accuracy was 6.9, which ranked 25th in NFL. His red-zone completion percentage was 55.4 percent, which ranked 27th in the NFL. The red zone is ultra important, and Brady let down his team a lot.

1. It's time to find his replacement…and maybe start the rebuild

Jarrett Stidham was the Patriots' backup quarterback last year, and who knows if he is ready to go, but if that's the way the Patriots want to go, there is no better way to test him out than now.

The Patriots could also go after someone like Teddy Bridgewater, and he will be looking to start this season, not sit behind Brady. If the Patriots bring back Brady, they could lose out on a chance at Bridgewater.

The team could also decide to draft a quarterback in the first or second round, and tank for the next few years, before coming back strong in 2021 or 2022.
