With the MLB free agency period really starting to get underway after the MLB lockout, the Houston Astros are going to have a tough decision on what they're going to do with Carlos Correa.

Correa has been one of the best players in baseball for the past few seasons. If Houston is going to want to continue that type of dominance they've been able to find for the past few seasons, it is going to be in their best interest to do everything they can to re-sign him.

Being able to re-sign him isn't going to be an easy task for the Astros, as many other teams are seeking the elite shortstop.

Let's take a look at three reasons why the Astros need to do everything they can to make sure Correa is back in Houston.

Astros Must Re-Sign Carlos Correa

3. He's a bad boy just like them

Not only is Carlos Correa arguably the best shortstop in baseball, but he also brings a different type of fire and passion to the game that you don't really see from many other guys.

There's no denying that when he is out there on the field (and off it), he is one of the cockiest players in baseball. It isn't necessarily a knock-on Correa because he backs it up, but he definitely is a ‘bad boy'.

Whether it be because of the whole cheating situation, him bat flipping, him letting people know that he believes he's better than they are, and many other scenarios, Correa is a cocky guy, and rightfully so.

2. He has played there for all of his career

When thinking about this deal from both perspectives, it makes sense. Carlos Correa has spent his entire career with the Houston Astros after being drafted by them with the first overall pick in the 2012 draft. He can obviously go somewhere else and get a massive contract, but he can also get paid in Houston where he has spent his entire career. He has spent his entire career there being one of, if not, the best shortstop in baseball for the past few seasons.

With all that he has already had to deal with in Houston and some of the backlash he has gotten because of the cheating scandal, it could be in his best bet to just stay there. Wherever he goes, he's going to have to deal with other fan bases possibly having some different opinions about him regardless of how well he can play on the field.

Whether it be with the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, or a few other teams, what Correa and the Houston Astros did during that whole cheating scandal is something that has turned off a lot of fan bases, which is understandable. People realize that he is one of the best players in the MLB, but they don't want the package that comes along with it.

Correa staying in Houston can solidify himself as one of the all-time Astros' greats, and it can also be a good thing for both sides. Obviously, this helps out the Astros more than it is going to help out Carlos Correa just because he can go be elite anywhere else, but it also offers him the chance to spend his whole career with one team and not have to worry about other fan base looking at him differently.

1. Correa is the best shortstop in baseball

When looking at the numbers that Carlos Correa has been able to put up the past few seasons, there's really no denying that he's been the best shortstop in baseball. Last season, he put up the highest WAR. season out of any other position player in all of baseball.

Not only is he an elite offensive player, but he is also one of the best defenders in all of baseball. He offers an elite glove and also has one of the best arms that the shortstop position has seen in quite some time.

Another thing outside of Carlos Correa being one of the best players in the MLB, he also offers a type of drive that he plays with that sells tickets and excites fans. Last season in the playoffs, he hit a huge home run in the ALCS and pointed to his wrist saying “It's my time”, things like this, as crazy as it sounds, put him above some other players. The way that he plays the game is certainly fun to watch and no matter if people want to argue with some of the things he has done, we cannot argue that he isn't the best shortstop in baseball.
