The New York Jets started off the 2019 season with a 0-4 record. With that in mind, they were clear underdogs heading into their Week 6 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys.

However, New York managed to pull off the upset with a 24-22 victory. Things aren't exactly back on track, as the team still has a 1-4 record. What it did do though was show their potential. It gave them something to build on. They probably found out a little bit about themselves as a team and can use that moving forward.

What did we learn though? Here are three things we learned about the Jets from their Week 6 win over the Cowboys.

Solid Weapons

The Jets offense looked miserable for most of the season. Due to that, you'd be forgiven for thinking there wasn't much there.

However, they actually have a few really nice pieces.

The hype was very real for Robby Anderson heading into the year. Having quarterback issues kept the wide receiver from getting to shine much though.

That changed in Week 6 when he broke out with five receptions for 125 yards and one touchdown. It reminded everyone of his big-play potential and that he's a serious threat.

Meanwhile, Jamison Crowder is a strong option out of the slot and already has 28 receptions in five games. They also added Demaryius Thomas, a veteran who can still produce at a pretty high level.

Le'Veon Bell popped up as well to remind everyone he's alive. He might not be having a great year but with all the issues New York had early on it's hard to blame him. He had his best game running in Week 6 and is a major receiving threat.

New York's cast of weapons isn't amongst the elite. However, they're much better than many might have realized. They proved that in Week 6 and will continue to impress as the year goes on.

Defense is Strong

Jamal Adams, Jets

Yes, Dallas wasn't at full strength. I'll give you that. Still, the Jets held them to the second-fewest points they've had all year with 22.

This isn't a one-week thing either. New York is constantly putting up solid defensive performances.

They've allowed 30-plus points twice this year. The Jets allowed 30 points to the Philadelphia Eagles (who had two defensive touchdowns), and 30 points to the New England Patriots (who can blame them for giving up points to that team).

Outside of that, the Jets have been pretty solid. It's also hard to be as good as they've been when the offense was giving them so little. That makes the numbers even more impressive. They've been dealing with little rest and short fields.

This isn't the elite defense of all defenses. They're a solid group that won't lose many games for the Jets.

Sam Darnold Makes a Major Difference

Sam Darnold, Jets

I don't know how surprising this is to most people. However, some people did believe Sam Darnold wasn't anything special.

Who knows, it's still early. Maybe he isn't anything special. He definitely makes a difference to this team though. The Jets looked utterly lost without their starting quarterback on offense.

Darnold is going to at least give them a chance and make the games much more bearable to watch.

With Darnold at quarterback in Week 1, the Jets scored 16 points on the Bills. That's the second most any team has scored against them all year (Cincinnati Bengals scored 17). Even the Patriots (16 points) didn't surpass them.

Then in their Week 6 game against the Cowboys, New York had 24 points.

So in Darnold's two games, they have 40 points. In the three games without him, the Jets have 23 points (just one offensive touchdown).

While there is still a lot of room to grow, Darnold clearly makes a massive difference. The Jets look like an entirely different team with their second-year star at quarterback.
